10 Pop Culture Cookbooks to Tickle Your Tastebuds
10 Pop Culture Cookbooks to Tickle Your Tastebuds Having spent the last couple of days researching pop culture cookbooks, Iâm not sure how I have lived this long without owning one. Iâm really not. Cooking has always been something of a chore, and I tend to go in for cheap, easy meal prep recipes with a high yield. Iâve made an art form out of only having to cook twice a month. And while technically thatâs more financially responsible than filling my lunch containers with either heart tartare tarts or sushi pokéballs, I think Iâm going to have to start shaking things up. Because these 10 pop culture cookbooks combine two of my favorite things, food and fandom, and now I am absolutely starving. Feeding Hannibal: A Connoisseurs Cookbook By janice poon Itâs always good to start by reaching for the stars. This cookbook is probably only to be whipped out either on days youâre feeling extravagant, or if youâve got a big dinner party and you really need to impress. Compiled by Janice Poon, the extraordinarily talented food stylist from NBCâs Hannibal (and now Starzâs American Gods), Feeding Hannibal is part cookbook, part art book, with page after glossy page of images, concept art, and behind-the-scenes tidbits from the now defunct show. Still, if itâs a bitter day and you need something to warm you up, Kristen says the Black Silkie Chicken Soup is the way to go. Or, if youâre feeling brave, thereâs always the Heart Tartare Tarts! Outlander Kitchen: The Official Outlander Companion Cookbook by Theresa Carle-Sanders Itâs safe to cook from this oneâ"absolutely none of the food is people! As opposed to the high artistry and excess of Feeding Hannibal, the recipes in Outlander Kitchen are warm, simple, stick-to-your-bones dishes. They run the gamut from traditional Scottish dishes like Cock-a-leekie Soup to dishes named for the characters that inspired their inclusion, like Lord Johnâs Upside-Down Plum Cake. True, Outlander Kitchen is more of a traditional cookbook than Feeding Hannibal, but with its warm colors, beautiful photography, and a foreword by series author Diana Gabaldon, this cookbook is every bit as much a collectorâs item. A Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Companion Cookbook by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel Sariann Lehrer In the words of George R.R. Martin, in the foreword to A Feast of Ice and Fire, âEat Hearty, my friends. Winter is coming.â If Outlander Kitchen seems a bit tame and too 18th century, and you need something hearty and medieval to go with your political intrigue (or to serve at your ominously colored weddings), this is the cookbook for you. Again, this is one of those cookbooks thatâs a delightful mix of period recipes and show-inspired pieces, containing some 100 recipes divided into six Westeros regions. So whether youâre feeling the need to thaw out with a hearty Breakfast on the Wall, or treat yourself to some Kingâs Landing Lemon Cakes (helloooooo) youâre bound to find the the perfect dishâ¦which, in Westeros, just might be your last. The Walking Dead: The Official Cookbook and Survival Guide by Lauren Wilson Not hanging out in Westeros, but still finding yourself with an un-dead problem? Or maybe youâre anticipating the onset of the inevitable zombie apocalypse and want to hone your food survival skills. This official The Walking Dead cookbook and survival guide is, as the title implies, a two-in-one. Youâll learn the finer points of scavenging and cooking with an open flame, and find yourself with a wide selection of recipes with which to test your new abilities. Whip yourself up some Homestead Home Fries for breakfast before you set out, reward yourself for your mid-morning zombie body count with Amy and Andreaâs Campfire Fish Fry, and top off the day with a little Cherry Moonshine. Because the world might be ending, but only a brain-munching zombie doesnât have time for a drink. (In moderation please. Intoxicated people die first when the zombies attack. Major party foul.) A Snacking Interlude: If you want something to nibble on the run consider also checking out THE SNACKING DEAD by D.B. Walker, a parody cookbook complete with âAppetizers for an Apocalypseâ and âMessy Bites for the Newly Deadââ¦for those days when you donât run quite fast enough. Orange Is the New Black Presents: The Cookbook by Jenji Kohan,? Tara Hermann,? Hartley Voss, Alex Regnery Okay, put the zombies and the dragons, the kilts and the cannibals away for a tick and come back to the world. Come back to a cookbook where most of the recipes will be familiar, and you can get your meat from the grocery store instead of stalking it through the zombie-infested Georgia countryside. Each entry in this book is attributed to a character from Orange is the New Black, and is preceded with an in-character paragraph pertaining to the recipe, which adds the fandom-specific touch that makes pop culture cookbooks the best cookbooks for the would be nerd-chef (read: Me). Help yourself to some of Gloriaâs Chunky Oatmeal (more appetizing than it sounds), or dig into Miss Rosaâs Huevos with Spinach (made with eggs from The Legendary Feral Chicken?) Thereâs even a recipe for SHU Moldy Mystery Meatâ¦but Iâd avoid that one if I were you. Treme: Stories and Recipes from the Heart of New Orleans by Lolis Eric Elie So Treme is one of those sad book stories, where, unfortunately, the physical copy is out of print. But I wanted to include it on this list because the e-book is still available, and the recipes in this one are to die for. Separated out by character, there are easily over 100 recipes in these pages, all of which celebrate a truly unique culture and cuisine that has stood the test of time and tragedy. You want a taste of New Orleans? This is a great cookbook to start with. The author, Elie, is a food historian who worked with HBO on Treme, and what heâs pulled together in Treme (the cookbook) is, again, that wonderful blend of fiction and fine cooking, with essays from each character, and an in-character anecdote for each recipe. All I know is Treme had me at Pecan Pancakes, but Iâd also hand you my soul in a box for some Ajan Ãtouffée. The Sopranos Family Cookbook: As Compiled by Artie Bucco by Allen Rucker, Michele Scicolone David Chase Whatâs a list of cookbooks without at least one decent Italian cookbook? I mean come on, who doesnât like Italian? Not unlike Treme, The Sopranos Family Cookbook is an combination of recipes and commentary from the characters of The Sopranos. Between recipes for Lasagna (of course) and Linguine alle Vongole are photos of the Sopranos family, family remembrances, essays, and memorabilia from the opening of the family restaurant, Nuovo Vasuvio. Recipes are not arranged by meal or type, but rather flow organically from the subject matter of the various chapters. But if that sounds just a bit too disorganized, donât turn your back on The Family just yet. Thereâs a very useful recipe index in the back organized alphabetically by recipe type. So grab a slice of Almond Torte, and mangia! Star Trek Cookbook by Ethan Phillips and William J Birnes Go where no man has gone beforeâ¦culinarily. Written in part by Ethan Phillips in the persona of his Star Trek: Voyager character, Neelix, the Star Trek Cookbook is a must have for intrepid star explorers. Broken into six categories, primarily by vessel (or space station), each familiar character serves as a sub-header for a group of recipesâ"thereâs even a group of recipes for tea with everyoneâs favorite Earl Grey drinking captain. Maybe youâre brave enough to try your hand at some Rokeg Blood Pie à la Neelix (No? Thatâs okay. I love Neelix, but Iâm not sure about his cooking either.) Or maybe youâd prefer some of Scottyâs Lemon Chicken. Thereâs nothing unfamiliar or scary (sorry Neelix) about Lemon Chicken. A delightful mix of recipes and anecdotes from Neelix, the Star Trek Cookbook will entertain and feed you. The Star Wars Cookbook: Wookiee Cookies and Other Galactic Recipes by Robin Davis And oldie but a goodie, this galactic cookbook was originally published in 1998. Aimed at cooking with children but thoroughly entertaining for Star Wars chefs of all ages, The Star Wars Cookbook is a little sillier than some of the previous entries, and a lot of fun. Make yourself some Boba Fett-Uccine for dinner, or start your morning with some Oola-la French Toast. If the kids eat all their Crazy Cantina Chili without getting dragged into a galactic rebellion you can reward them with some titular Wookiee Cookies and Hoth Chocolate. Apparently the Dark Side doesnât have all the cookies. The Pokémon Cookbook: Easy Fun Recipes by Maki Kudo This might be the cutest cookbook on the list, although itâs neck and neck with The Star Wars Cookbook. Beating the cute factor of a Wookie Cookie (thatâs just so much fun to say) is no easy feat, but the Pikachu Happy Face Cake comes pretty close. Like The Star Wars Cookbook, The Pokémon Cookbook is designed to get kids into the kitchen and cooking, as well as introduce them and the whole family to a new cuisine. If your little kitchen helper isnât one for sweets, or youâre trying to limit their intake of sugary electric mice, you could substitute Pikachu Fried Rice (its face is an egg), or whip up some super adorable and delicious Sushi Pokéballs! Gotta eat âem all, Pokémon! (Thatâs how it goes, right?) Didnât see your fandom? Dont worry! Theres a pop culture cookbook for everyone! Maybe you want something more bookish. Or maybe you want to get the kids cooking, but theyâre not big on Princess Leia Danish Dos or Piplup Milk Gelatin bowls, and would rather have something from Redwall or Anne of Green Gables. Whatever your fandom, go forth and cook! Sign up for True Story to receive nonfiction news, new releases, and must-read forthcoming titles. Thank you for signing up! Keep an eye on your inbox.

The fourth and final regime of public health has been labeled the ââ¬Å"New Public Health: A socio-ecological model.â⬠This model developed in response to many limiting factors of community health. The specific problem would be that ââ¬Å"in treating communities as self- 5 contained entities, it failed to analyse the effects of broader political and environmental forces on the community as a whole.â⬠(University of South Africa, 2014) With this in mind, public health is now concerned with the public and context in which people live and the changing of the behaviour of the individual and at community level. Texas Is The Best Job Producing State - 1622 Words
Texas is known as the independent, friendly, wealthy, job producing state perfect to raise a family. Jobs are the main reasons for so many people moving to Texas, in fact in 2013, Texas has had a net gain of over 300,000. The numbers and stories of Texas growth sounds promising and is very understanding why so many would want to move here but is it all true? Itââ¬â¢s time to look at all of the facts and numbers, to see what jobs, income, and wealth in Texas are really like. According to Cal Jillson, author of Lone Star Tarnished, Texas being known as the best job producing state is caused from the ever growing population, exceeding the population growth of the national rate, in Texas. In 1940 the national rate for increase in jobs was atâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Texas currently ranks almost last with a 32.2 percent in jobs that donââ¬â¢t pay enough to support a family of four (Jillson 80). Many Texans are confused as to why income in Texas is at such a low when we are the best at producing jobs, they forget that a good portion of those jobs donââ¬â¢t pay enough to keep family oriented homes above water. Texasââ¬â¢s personal income (PCPI) and median family income are not improving, theyââ¬â¢re just staying the same, below the United Statesââ¬â¢ ratings (Jillson 88-93). In fact Texas is ranked as one of the five poorest income states in America and fifth in income inequality. The main reason for such a high migration rate to Texas is for jobs, we are known as having plenty of jobs available for anyone who wants them, though our unemployment rate would say different. Since the 1970s, Texas and the United States have been almost back and forth on the rating of unemployment. During 1986 and 2006, Texas exceeded the United States in the rate of unemployment but by 2008 we were back under the U.S. by a good point to point and a half (Jillson 94). While some might find Texas having less of an unemployment rate than the U.S. a good thing, Iââ¬â ¢d disagree, we still, as of 2010, have a high unemployment rate of about 8.2%. Itââ¬â¢s no secret that wealth among the United States is unfair but it is also true in not being fair in Texas as well. Our poverty rate between 1980 and 2010 was

They also have a long standing loyal customer base. They also stay on top of current technology systems and networks to manage their manufacturing and distribution. Pepsi prides itself on knowing their customers needs to provide excellent customer service and implement global growth. Weaknesses Pepsi must keep an eye on chain stores. Pepsi has also had problems with offering new products without having sufficient knowledge of their target demographic. Their size is also a concern. The company is so large that it could lose focus or have internal conflict problems External Opportunities Pepsi needs to utilize the expanding Internet possibilities to better serve their customers. International Court Of Justice Essays - Organized Crime,
International Court of Justice Michelle Gowka 04/26/01 PL SC 14H S. Bremer Overview The issue of international terrorism is one that has engulfed the global community. With terrorism on the increase, we have seen that its importance has increased. Whether domestic or international in nature, terrorism is having an ever-increasing impact upon the international community. The United States has fallen victim to acts of terrorism recently, most notably the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK, and the 1998 bombings of U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the embassy bombings were linked to Osama Bin Laden, a former Saudi Arabian National whose excessive bank accounts fund a worldwide terrorist operation. Further investigation revealed that Bin Laden was living in Afghanistan in a camp protected by his own 200-man private army and a sub-unit of the Taliban, a quasi-religious organization operating within Afghanistan's borders (MSNBC, 10/12/99). The United States, backed by other nations who have had terrorist attacks related to Bin Laden, appealed to the United Nations Security Council to call for the extradition of Osama Bin Laden for trial. In response to the request, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted resolution 1267 on October 15, 1999. The resolution called for sanctions to be placed on Afghanistan effective November 14, 1999 unless the Taliban turned over suspected terrorist Osama Bin Laden to the appropriate authorities. Bin Laden is currently a suspect in financing terrorist activities in nation-states such as Algeria, Jordan, Egypt, Israel, Kenya, and even the United States of America. Worldwide intelligence networks have been attempting to maintain constant surveillance of him in order to help deter further acts. However, he is still free, protected by the Taliban, who share many of the same fundamentalist beliefs with him. International Law has established several procedures for the extradition and trial of international terrorists. Currently, there are eleven documents of international law, which address the issue states' responsibility for combating terrorism (USIA, Feb. 1999). Bearing in mind the precedence established in international law as well as the nature of these activities that have been associated with Osama Bin Laden, it is appropriate to impose sanctions upon the Taliban for the surrender of Osama Bin Laden to the proper authorities. I.History of International Terrorism International terrorism has changed in structure and design over the centuries. Jewish zealots conducted campaigns against the Romans in the first century AD, and the Hashshashin, a Shi'ah Muslim group who gave us the word assassin, systematically murdered those in positions and leadership during the 19th century (CSIS, July 1999). The modern age of terrorism began in the 1960's. International terrorism in its current form began in 1968. As the 1970's passed by, the explosion of extremist groups and related incidents sparked a new awareness of the dangers of terrorism. In the 1980's, Canada was the victim of several terrorist attacks carried out by Armenian and Sikh extremists, including a bombing of an Air India flight originating in Toronto, which exploded off the coast of Ireland, killing 329 people (CSIS, July 1999). The 1995 Sarin gas attack by the Aum Shinrikyo Cult in a Tokyo subway marked a new threshold in international terrorism. For the first time, people began to realize that similar groups could use weapons of mass destruction or plan attacks to inflict maximum casualties. The long-term effects of exposure are yet to be determined, but preliminary tests of eighteen victims conducted in January 1998 showed that their sense of balance was affected by the nerve gas (ACOEM, January 1998). II. Status of Bin Laden At present, Bin Laden controls a comprehensive international terrorist network, all financed through Bin Laden's personal fortune. His headquarters are located in Afghanistan, and are protected by numerous Taliban soldiers. While tensions between Bin Laden and Taliban members have become strained since August 1998, he nonetheless has remained free from capture to this point. However, Security Council Resolution 1267 does indeed call for Afghanistan to turn him over to the proper international authorities. Bin Laden is officially a man without a country, as Saudi Arabia pulled his passport in 1994 amidst allegations of financing subversive activities in Egypt, Algeria, and Yemen. Bin Laden fled to Sudan, where he began working with the National
